
GLOSSARY
Cap Card
Swatch card with a custom die cut frame placed over the swatched fabrics on a card. This swatch card is good for fabrics that fray as edges are covered.
Clear Mono Thread
Clear thread used to overlock material edges to keep fabric from fraying. The clear option doesn't take away from the material qualities.
Control Sample
A sample of the material provided by the customer to show Acme Sample the correct fabric color, texture and direction to ensure all production will be as expected.
Cut to Size
A process where fabrics are cut to the size required for the project. This is done by industrial high performance, high precision machines specifically designed to cut multi-layers and small precise sizes.
Die Cut Overlay
A custom die cut frame that is glued over the edges of fabrics on a swatch card. Typically used when fabrics may fray.
Double Needle Chain Stitch
Sewing stitch used to attach fabric to another material, typically a printed header.
Eyelet
A small metal washer that is used to connect two or more materials, or used as a small hole for holding marketing presentations together.
Fabric Backing
A process used to apply a backing to fabric so glue used in production does not bleed through fabric samples. Used on an as-needed basis.
Feeler Swatch
A swatch that is partially glued down allowing the customer to "feel" the material.
Flexible Rings
Coated wire rings with a screw closure - available in custom sizes. Keeps materials at hand with easy access to remove or add as desired.
Grommet
A metal washer used in fabrics to allow sample to be added to a ring or hung in a presentation. The grommet adds support to the material. Available in brass, nickel and assorted sizes.
Hanging Sample
Custom sized materials that may be hung flat or folded with a header card and hanger. Ideal for retail presentations.
Hook and Loop Closure
Two materials used together as a closure - one side has loops and one side has hooks. Used on hanging samples to hold materials closed until ready to fully open.
Island Swatch Card
A swatch card where material swatches are placed on top of the card in a designated position based on the customer design. Materials can be straight cut or pinked edge (shown).
Master Sample
A sample of the material provided by the customer to show Acme Sample the correct fabric color, face and direction to ensure all production will be as expected.
Memo
A single swatch sample that may be produced in a variety of size and tagged in multiple ways. May be pinked, overlocked or drilled.
Overlock
A type of stitch that sews over the edge to keep the fabrics from fraying.
Pinking
A zig-zag cut on the edge of fabrics to help resist fraying
Ring Page
A printed header card that may have materials glued in a variety of layouts and a larger main material is double needle sewn on the bottom
Screw/Post
Available in a variety of sizes, used to hold materials together and ability to remove or add materials as desired.
Screw Lock Rings
Hinged rings available in a variety of sizes and styles with a screw lock for security. Keeps materials at hand with easy access to remove or add as desired.
Slabbing
Preparing fabrics for cut-to-size. Fabrics are rolled on a table and compared against master or control sample.
Straight Cut
Cutting materials with a straight blade used on fabrics that do not fray, or that will be overlocked.
Straight Stitch
Single needle sewing technique for attaching two materials, or topstitching
Swatch Card or Tip Card
A card that has glued sample materials applied for showcasing a large number of colors or textures in a condensed format.
Waterfall Card
A swatch card where fabrics are layered over each other for maximum visibility of the swatch in the space allowed.
